IMSA pairs two Sentronics Ultrasonic Flow Measurement Devices for greater Balance of Performance Control

The brief
Greater Balance of Performance (BoP) analysis
The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is a highly competitive racing series featuring a range of diverse vehicle classes, from prototype race cars to GT sports cars. To ensure fair competition, IMSA employs a strict Balance of Performance (BoP) system. This system involves adjusting various parameters, such as weight, horsepower, and aerodynamic efficiency, to create a level playing field for all competitors.

The challenge
Enhanced BoP Control for wheel-to-wheel racing
In order to rollout an accurate BoP system, fuel consumption and fuel dispensing is key to understanding vehicles performance and policing restrictions that require enforcement when not met.

The result
Precision, real-time data when it counts
To address this challenge, IMSA partnered with Sentronics to provide the FlowSonic® GT, an advanced ultrasonic on-vehicle fuel flow meter, and the RigFlow, a motorsport pit tank sensor to tighten control of BoP.
The FlowSonic® GT offers exceptional accuracy in harsh racing conditions. With the technology proven in other top flight motorsport championships, IMSA benefited from a reliable, highly accurate flow meter, quick adoption and rollout.
The RigFlow was specifically developed for IMSA and levelled up fuel dispensing for all classes participating in IMSA and utilises advanced flow measurement technology to accurately dispense fuel whilst minimizing discrepancies. Both fuel flow meters delivered transformative breakthrough for IMSA by improving fairness and fine tuning BoP parameters, resulting in more exciting closing racing.
